Show solidarity by signing our online petition demanding that Honeywell end the lockout and bring back the experienced USW members. - Wednesday, March 16, 2011

Sisters and Brothers,

The attack on workers’ rights and the middle class isn’t just happening in Wisconsin or Ohio. And it’s not just affecting public employees. Workers in every profession, in every state are under assault, and their family- and community-supporting jobs are at risk.

Just ask the proud members of USW Local 7-669 in Metropolis, Ill. Our well-trained, hard-working members have been locked out of their uranium processing plant by Honeywell for 249 days and counting.

Just like Republican governors, Honeywell's CEO David Cote is trying to break unions. Cote, who’s hired multimillion-dollar union busting firms, refuses to sit down and bargain in good faith with our members, despite their willingness to work without a new contract.

Instead, Honeywell brought in inexperienced, temporary workers to process uranium, a highly dangerous job where a mistake could mean catastrophe for the entire Metropolis community. Make no mistake about it. The Honeywell fight is not about money any more than the battles in Wisconsin, Ohio, Indiana and elsewhere are about balancing budgets.

This is about destroying unions, the only line of defense for hard-working families against profits-at-any-cost corporations and the politicians who serve them.

Honeywell has spent more locking out workers – at least $48.8 million in a few months - than it would cost to give our sisters and brothers what they want at the bargaining table: protection of health and retirement benefits, worth about $20 million over three years.

We’re committed to standing and fighting this and every attack on our rights. Help us save the middle class and protect the Metropolis community. Sign our petition today and pass it on.

Solidarity Forever,
USW
