Milestone | USA's 25,000th Member May Signal theTipping-Point

When Mike Altonberg of Ironworkers Local 133 in Rochester, NY, joined the Union Sportsmen’s Alliance recently, he became the 25,000th union member to do so! Not too bad for an organization that’s just four years old. And best of all, Altonberg was one of more than 2,000 new members to join last month! That’s right…more than 2,000 in just the last month. Maybe the USA is at a tipping-point. Read More

Giveaway | Last Chance to Win a NevadaTrophy Elk Hunt

High in the Nevada mountains amidst the vibrant colors of fall, you feel a shiver of excitement course through your body as a bull elk bugles in response to your call.  You try to control your heart rate and steady your hands as each bugle brings the massive creature closer.  And finally you see him approach from the timber, wearing his imposing 6x6 antlers like a crown and screaming his authority among the herd.

That story could become your reality this fall because the USA is giving away a once-in-a-lifetime, guided elk hunt as part of a fundraiser for its new Boots on the Ground conservation program. But you have to act fast - the deadline to enter is Sept. 22, 2011Enter to Win

It’s when brown and brook trout, especially the males, don their most glorious and vibrant colors of the year. The lower jaws of the males also grow and take on the characteristic hook, called kypes.

Fortunately for anglers, autumn’s stunning brown and brook trout also tend to be aggressive and will strike at flies, especially big streamers, and lures with voracious abandonment.  Read More

Imagine winning a $2,000 Cabela’s shopping spree. Just imagine walking into one of their stores, grabbing a catalog or visiting the Cabela’s website and saying, "I want that fishing rod, that rifle scope, those boots, that hunting coat. And while I’m at it, I think I’ll take one of those reels and a new sleeping bag." There are thousands of products to choose from at Cabela’s, and who among us doesn’t need at least $2,000 worth of new gear?

For five Union Sportsmen’s Alliance members, a $2,000 Cabela’s shopping spree is going to come true--just in time for Christmas. That's because the world’s foremost outfitter of hunting, fishing and outdoor gear has partnered with the USA and donated $10,000 worth of Cabela’s gift certificates to help make the USA membership drive a big success. Conservation | Head Outdoors to Celebrate National Hunting and Fishing Day

September 23, 2011 marks the first day of fall.  And fall is a great season to get outside and enjoy the cooler temperatures and vibrant colors, especially if you like to hunt and fish.  So it’s fitting that Sept. 24 is National Hunting and Fishing Day, an annual holiday established by Congress in 1972 to recognize hunters, anglers and recreational shooters for their leadership and contributions to conservation in America.

More than 100 years ago, hunters and anglers were the earliest and most vocal supporters of conservation and scientific wildlife management. They were the first to recognize that rapid development and unregulated uses of wildlife were threatening the future of many species.  Read more
